Every method(ology) as its merits however its important to know how to use the method EFFECTIVELY and how much of it to use: 

A method(ology) which is supported by a tool is there to guide/assist you in determining the Root Cause of a Problem in a structured, consistent manner and using a common language. What is critical to understand then is that the effectiveness of the method is in the hands of the person managing the situation supported by the tool.

The key to any method is the effective Usage of the methodology and Questioning Skills of the facilitator. I am a Program Leader for Kepner Tregoe Problem Solving Methodology and I do have extensive experience on this methodology and it is extremely effective. Again it is the experience of the facilitator that makes a method(ology) work well for which ever method you choose to implement in your organistation.


I am often asked "What about this method and that method"... My response is every method(ology) as its merits however its important to know how to use the method EFFECTIVELY and how much of it to use. Therefore my approach over the years is that I am very keen to learn the different methods available to perform RCA and for each method I learn key techniques that then assists me to become a more effective facilitator of a Problem to determine its True Cause.

 

A method can only be implemented well if you have a clear implementation plan; Buy-in from Executive management is a starting step and effective internal coaches and Ambassadors that are process masters.
